Facilities & Rooms

Green & Blue Rooms

When a child starts Comberton Playgroup they will be allocated a place in either the Blue or Green room and assigned a Key Worker within that room.

A key worker is a member of staff who has special responsibility for your child. The key worker will be responsible for helping your child to settle in and will plan learning opportunities based on your child’s individual interests and needs.

This will be assessed through observations and discussion with parent/carers. The Blue and Green room follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and have a mix of ages from 2 – 4 years.

The year before moving onto primary school, children aged 3 – 4 years attend the Preschool Room for some of their sessions each week. Children from the Blue and Green rooms join together for these sessions.

The Preschool Room follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, encouraging more independence and extending the children’s knowledge and decision making, encouraging positive behaviour and positive relationships.

For their Preschool Room sessions children should still be dropped off and collected from Blue or Green rooms.

Messy Play / Lunchtime Room

The Messy Play / Lunchtime Room is located at the back of the building overlooking the back garden. This room is used for Messy Play sessions on Monday and Thursday mornings.

The room is also used for lunchtime sessions. The room contains our small kitchen area for preparing snacks and drinks, which children cannot access.

Back Garden & Front Playground

We have a small back garden area with grass and flower beds, that the children use for planting and gardening. This is also home to our guinea pigs, which the children love to visit!

Our front playground is enjoyed by all children every day. As well as the permanent outside play equipment, we have a range of scooters, tricycles, Cozy Coupe’s and other vehicles for the children to ride on or push around. There is a blackboard and a secret passage through the flower bed! We have a mud kitchen area and a sand pit.

In hot sunny weather, we move some of our inside books, toys and craft activities out here too, and put up gazebos to provide shade.
